Will I really save money?

YES!! Using cloth diapers on your baby will save you money.

Let's take a look at disposable diaper costs - which is a difficult task because the prices vary so much between brands and sizes.

I found the range to be from $0.24 to $0.46, so let's use $0.30.

Year 1 - Average 10 diaper changes per day = $1095
Year 2 - Average 8 diaper changes per day = $876
Year 3 - Average 6 diaper changes per day = $657

Total after 3 years - of using disposable diapers = $2628
Wipes - 1 box per week @ $3 x 52 weeks = $156 per year
Grand Total of $2784 for disposable diapers

Example #1 Leading pocket diaper

24 diapers x $22 = $528 x 3 sizes (small, medium, large)= $1584 - now remember - this is one of the more expensive diapers. Some babies never wear large - and .......... 24 diapers is enough diapers for 2 days for new borns and up to 3 days for an older baby.

3 years of high end cloth pocket diapers = $1584 - a savings of around $1200 - and really I've used a conservative estimate on the disposables! If you don't think you would use diapers for 3 years - consider the price of pull-up style disposables which are much more expensive than regular disposables.

Example #2 One Size Fitted Diaper

Baby BeeHinds Bamboo One Size Diapers

30 diapers @ $24 each = $720
3 Wool Covers @ $24 each = $72
3 PUL Covers $12 each = 36

Grand Total of $828

Savings of $1956

Additionally, you can reused your cloth diapers on several children, resell, or donate them when you are finished using them.

Think of all the the WASTE you are saving from going into our earth's landfills!! Over four million disposable diapers are discarded in Canada per day.
